Cotswold
What a tourist can expect from Cotswold
Those who have free time to spare in England are recommended to visit not only the city of London, but also many attractions not far from it. For instance, if you are tired of life in the noisy city, you can spend a day in Kent, Sussex or Cotswold.
Make a visit to their picturesque villages, antique shops, feast your eyes upon their flowers and hilly landscapes, attend church service in a village church and drink tea in traditional tea salon.
The district of Cotswold deserves special attention. It is a part of the Gloucestershire county (with Gloucester being its county town).
This is the land of flat hills, charming cottages and secluded manors. Houses are twined with roses and honeysuckle, curiosity shops and old village pubs remind of typical Cotswolds’ way of life that has been almost invariable during the last centuries.
Don’t miss the Stow-on-the-Wold, Broadway Tower, Chipping Campden and villages that bear the strange names of Upper and Lower Slaughter.
However, having spent some time walking around the district, you will discover a lot more attractions to see.
In the beginning of the 20th century, famous aristocratic Mitford sisters lived in the town of Swinbrook – Unity and Nancy are buried at Swinbrook Churchyard.
In the outskirts of Winchcombe there is Sudeley Castle found – the place where Catherine Parr (the sixth wife of King Henry VIII) lived.
Make a visit to Cirencester with its majestic Rodmarton tower, surrounded by beautiful English gardens, irreproachably clean Westonbirt (The National Arboretum) and odd-named villages such as Shipton-under-Wychwood and Broadway, famous for their antique shops.
Its really impossible to name all of the district’s amenities.
You might want to spend a longer time here – and in this case, you will need a place to stay. Cotswold offers lots of good accommodation options, but most of the hotels are of course located in Gloucester.
It has all the principal amenities that a business or holiday traveler needs, such as restaurant, sauna, solarium or indoor swimming pool.
The hotel offers a quiet location, ideal if you want to go on tour around Cotswold or Cheltenham. Don’t forget to take some bread to feed ducks in the hotel’s pond. In the other Ramada hotel, Ramada Resort Gloucester friendly staff will provide you with everything for a good stay.
There is a good choice of amenities in the hotel, including swimming pool, gym, sauna, steam room and beauty salon.
Without any doubt, this is a place for holiday tourists, but amenities for business people are also provided: meeting and conference rooms, fax, copying and secretarial services are waiting for you.
Another property belongs to Holiday Inn hotel chain. Good location, spacious rooms, friendly staff, complimentary bottles of water and orange juice… The only advice would be to book in advance, as the hotel is often full.
These are some brief facts about what a tourist can find in Cotswold. Cotswold is an excellent place for those who prefer quiet rest in natural surroundings!
